ASD (autism spectrum disorder) is a brain disorder affects several parts of the brain this causes many disabilities. It has been an issue across the world which it affects any-type of person. This essay will discuss over the importants of autism and why children express themselves in a unique way.
The history of Autism
“The word ‘autism’ is a compound of two Greek words-‘aut-’, which means ‘self, and ‘-ism’, which implies ‘orientation or state’” (Trevathn, C., Aiker, A., Desping, P., and Rarts. J., 1996). Autistic children have had this mental disorder since long time ago; however researchers never have looked upon it. Until in 1943, “ The first accepted clinical paper presenting a clear picture of the psychological features of children called ‘autistic’ was published by an American psychiatrist, Leo Kanner.” (Kanner, 1943). Kanner was the first one to identify autistic children with unmoral behavior. As his research grew he found out more about autism, and about this unfamiliar mental disorder. Kenner gave a lead for other researchers to investigate and gain knowledge about children who have autism. In turn, this created a clinical foundation.
Learning about autism
Autism spectrum disorder affects a child’s brain. Autism is a brain disorder that affects the communication, behavior, and interaction with other people is difficult. According to Zervas (2014), “Up to 10% of all children have not yet begun using meaningful words by the time they reach there second birthday.” Children at the age of two start to communicate by using small words such as ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ yet it is unusual when a child does not. An autistic child as well can be identified by the way he expresses himself. “A child with ASD might not respond to his name, make eye contact, smile at caregivers, or wave goodbye without being told to. A child with ASD also might not use eye contact to get someone’s attention or communicate” (Trevathn, C., Aiker, A., Desping, P., and Rarts. J. 1996) Thanks to Kenner, the founder of autism, we are capable to find more hints in how to identify this disorder. In stated “Autism is the consequence in mental life of a complex disorder of brain development affecting many functions of perceiving, intending, imagining and feeling.” (Trevathn, C., Aiker, A., Desping, P., and Rarts. J. 1996) They live in their own world but this does not mean egocentrically. Scientist believe a child who has autism is sending the wrong signals to the brain. In Raising Child Network (2015) states, “‘Pruning’ is how the brain makes room for important connections – those needed for everyday actions and responses. It’s thought that, in children with ASD, this pruning doesn’t take place as much as it should – so information might be lost or sent through the wrong connections.” (Raising Child Network, 2006-2015) This can be responsible for why ASD children have trouble with their behavior and language. This developmental disorder not only makes children have trouble in interacting with society yet they can be very intelagical in subjects. “Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art.” (Autism Speaks, 2015). Autistic children can have a great imagination and they view the world differently than every one else; for this reason why are gifted talented . There is another eccentric thing about autism: Men tend to be affected more by have autism more than women, “An estimated 1 out of 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls are diagnosed with autism in the United States.”(Autism speaks, 2015) The cause of autism is unknown, scientist conclude that what is going wrong yet do not know what is causing this disorder. Autism can cause many disabilities no reliable causes for this disorder.

Symptoms/Treatment
There is no cure for Autism. Researchers had not yet found or what might be the cause of autism. This disorder is very mysterious, but when comparing autism to other mental disorders, such as Alzheimer’s, researchers have found that autism has one of the fastest brain disorder recovery that can improve in time. For example “Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disorder in the U.S.” (Road, n.d.) Not only is autism a fast developmental disorder one main reason why the Autism has been looked up more closely than any other year is because the increase of children who have autism is increasing. “Autism statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identify around 1 in 68 American children as on the autism spectrum–a ten-fold increase in prevalence in 40 years” (Autism speaks, 2015) This explains that each year more children are being born with autism. Now that autism has been looked deeply upon on they have found symptoms that mostly all ASD children suffer from. The most common symptom is called Gastrointestinal Disorder. According to Autism Speaks (2015) “GI distress is common among persons with autism, and affects up to 85 percent of children with ASD. These conditions range in severity from a tendency for chronic constipation or diarrhea to inflammatory bowel disease.” This causes for ASD children to have aggression problems and self-injure. Scientists are noticing that the environment changes might be the one of the causes that might be affecting these children. As shown in figure 1 you can see a graph explaining the difficulties an autistic child incouters. Autism is not curable yet. However attending different therapy sessions that can help their condition can treat it. “Parents and therapists also report success with other commonly used behavioral therapies, including floortime, Pivotal response therapy and Verbal behavioral theraphy.” (Autism speaks, 2015) Another way to improve children their disabilities is by getting special help in school.

Autism spectrum disorder contributes many disabilities such as not being able to communicate, show emotion and trouble to understand. This is because their brain develops at slower rate. There is no cure for autism; there is only ways to improve it. According to scientist the best remedy to treat autism, is time.
